    When you gave birth
    your flesh separated from your flesh
    and a new person was born

and it hurt

    when that person grew up
    your love separated from your love
    and a new adult was among us

and it hurt

    and you were left
    with a void
    where your love used to be

and it hurt

    and with a new friend
    who knew you
    and who still loved you

which made it all worth while
