So much goes on where we can't see it
in the roots of plants
all the bugs underground
the fish underwater

so much that's important
and then there is
the far side of the moon
where nothing goes on that matters to us

so much goes on where I can't see it
in the depths of my heart
the roots of my soul
the convolutions of my thinking

not always able to focus on what's important
today's butterfly seems bigger than tomorrow's fruit
the feelings that pass so quickly, then return
seeming bigger than the actions I take or don't take

friends come and go, as do lovers
my feelings are like lovers as well
they take over when they are here
then they are gone
